‘The Island’ is a large-scale nude portrait of the artist’s husband who portrays an island surrounded by the ocean. It tells a story that indicates love and the confinement in the artist’s life while being separated from reality. It shows the artist’s subconscious reliance on her husband. The painting of the husband is very detailed yet the painting of the sailboat, which represents the painter, has little strength in the composition. It shows the artist’s fragility in herself to get across the wild water to the island, which seductively calls her in.
